Strange request here. My boyfriend’s sister needs to give up her pet cockatiel. My boyfriend loves the bird, says it is the friendliest sweetest bird he ever met. He’d like to adopt it. However, I have bad allergies to cats, and am worried by the information that cockatiels have a lot of feather dust which can trigger allergies for some people. Sniffles I can handle. Asthma I can’t live with 24/7. Sadly, I can’t get to know the cockatiel in question, because she lives in Texas and I live in California.
I’d really like to find someone with a pet cockatiel, (who doesn’t have other pets to complicate the allergy feedback) who would let me spend a couple hours with their bird to see how my allergies do. Going to an animal shelter, pet shop or bird rescue wouldn’t help, because I am guaranteed to have allergies at one of those because they have so many animals, and that won’t tell me if a single cockatiel would set me off.
I figure you must have cockatiel contacts all over the country, and if anyone can help it would be you.
We have to make a decision by January 20, when Larry will be coming back from his visit to Texas with or without the bird. I live in the Santa Cruz area (300 miles north of Los Angeles, 80 miles south of San Francisco.) After January 17 I will be in Westchester, NY.
I know it is an unusual request. If you are able to line me up with anyone who is willing to let me spend time with their birds, please give them my phone number, 510-295-7042, or my email address eflilly@earthlink.net Thank you so much.
Just to throw the idea out there… maybe we could find some one to make some Show cages and post them on here to sell since we get MANY people who come to our web site, and many Join after they have read and looked through it. It will also help the Novice breeder/shower a place to buy a Show box of their own.. I know I would come here and Buy a few if there was a link and a perches button
Great idea Janelle! I’ll pass on that idea!
That would certainly help ALOT! I have been searching for show cages for weeks with no luck.
