Ever since our baby bird has come home, it hasnt had very many head feathers. The pet store said it was from the other birds plucking them out. Well it has been home for months now and still very little feathers on the head. It does seem alittle thinner than i would like it and am trying to build it up with a protiene mixture. What else can I try? It is a picky eater as well. Thanks
I would have the bird checked by an avian specialist to rule out any illness issues first. While at that visit, discuss with the vet what would be best for the bird’s diet. You did not say if the bird was a lutino (yellow or white with red eyes). Often times the lutino exhibits a genetic bald patch in varying degrees on the head. Other mutations can have this too but it is more common in lutinos. By having the bird checked by a vet, you can rule out any environmental issues, illness or even determine if the bird has genetic baldness and will always have a thin crest.
