Statement
People have kept birds for thousands of years. Parrots are intelligent,
social birds that can view people as part of their own social structure.
Therefore, parrots can make great pets if you meet all their needs --
social, physical, and nutritional. The parrot group includes the most
popular pets, the budgerigar (known as the "parakeet") and the cockatiel,
and range in size from the very tiny "dwarf parrot" to the largest
hyacinth macaws.
Most Avian Veterinarians offer:
- Grooming such as wing or nail trims
- Diagnostic, surgical and sexing procedures
- Information on breeding and raising young
- Demonstrations on handling, monitoring health, medicating, and
dealing with emergencies.
Try to locate an Avian Veterinarian before you need them. Look for
one who provides:
- Outpatient, hospital or housecall care.
- 24 hour emergency service
- Day-evening-weekend hours, including some or all holidays.
