Pied birds have random areas of plumage that
contain no melanin, and therefore areas of their grey plumage are replaced with yellow (most pied cockatiels have more yellow feathers than grey ones). They have dark eyes, which can distinguish the heaviest pieds (birds with no grey feathers, or "clear pieds") from lutinos. This mutation is recessive.
